A New Call to Action!
The National Task Force on Civic Learning & Democratic Engagement recently released A Crucible Moment: College Learning and Democracy's Future. This report calls on the nation to reclaim higher education's civic mission. Commissioned by the Department of Education and released at a White House convening in January 2012, the report pushed back against a prevailing national dialogue that limits the mission of higher education to workforce preparation and training while marginalizing disciplines basic to democracy. The Maryland Campus Compact will soon be officially recognized by the National Campus Compact as the Maryland-District of Columbia Campus Compact. Two and a half years ago, when the MDCC first formed, Maryland's presidents voted to invite D.C. presidents to join with them in forming a MD-DC Campus Compact.
In May of 2011, with the leadership of former national board chair, Dr. John DeGioia of Georgetown University, the presidents of the D.C. area voted to join with MDCC! MDCC is now in the process of re-affiliating with the National Office and filing amendments to our Articles of Incorporation. For more information on how to join the new MDCCC, please contact Executive Director, Madeline Yates.
